Teaching & Eco Projects Workaway Volunteer

Cosmus Mwema runs Mackinnon Road Academy, a registered-charity primary and secondary school with 110+ students, about 100km from Mombasa, Kenya, and is hosting Workaway volunteers.

You will help with teaching (English, Math, Science, and other subjects depending on your skills), eco projects like tree planting and garbage collection, light maintenance and gardening, and computer/digital learning support. Commitment is around 25 hours a week, typically up to 5 hours a day.

In exchange, you get a self-contained room (bedroom, bathroom, toilet -- squat toilets and bucket showers, simple conditions), electricity, and mosquito nets, plus three daily traditional Kenyan meals with the host family. Note this host asks volunteers to contribute US$5-7/day toward food and running costs given the region's semi-arid setting -- this is a paid-contribution work exchange, not a free one.

No minimum stay is required. Volunteers should be adaptable to basic living conditions and genuinely interested in cultural exchange and working with vulnerable children.
