Bayaca Island (Workaway Host)
Rex, who inherited a private island off Coron, Palawan, Philippines, hosts Workaway volunteers to help maintain and run the island.
You will help with general maintenance: tidying forest trails, keeping the beach and reef clean, cooking, dishes, plus light renovation work (carpentry, plumbing) and art projects. Work is flexible and light, generally scheduled around cooler morning hours, with no fixed weekly-hours commitment stated (assume a standard ~20-25 hour/week work exchange load).
In exchange, you get a beach tent with mattress, sheets, pillow and waterproof cover, or a bed in a renovated building (conditions vary). A shared kitchen is available; volunteers generally buy their own food from the Coron market before arrival, with an optional ~PHP200/person/day for imported staples.
No minimum stay is required. The host is looking for team players with a positive attitude; getting to the island requires a boat rental (roughly PHP4,500-5,000, or PHP500-1,500 via the Culion route) since there is no public transport.
This is an unpaid work exchange (basic tent/room accommodation; food arranged/self-funded by volunteers) -- not a paid job and not visa sponsored. Apply directly through the host's Workaway listing.
