Project Manager, Academic Engagements

The Ethereum Foundation supports research, development, and community growth across the Ethereum ecosystem, and a significant part of that work depends on strong ties to academia. We are hiring a Project Manager, Academic Engagements to translate Ethereum's research priorities into questions, framings, and opportunities that resonate with academic audiences, and to build the partnerships that turn those opportunities into real collaborations.

In this role you will identify and engage researchers whose work intersects with problems Ethereum cares about, and build lasting partnerships with universities and research institutions around the world. You will design and scale academic programs such as workshops, hackathons, and curriculum collaborations, and act as the connective tissue between what the ecosystem needs and which scholars or institutions are best positioned to help. Part of the role is also about visibility: disseminating research through events, publications, and other content so that good academic work actually reaches the people building in the ecosystem, and developing funding pathways that make it easier for academics to get involved in Ethereum-related research in the first place.

This is a role for someone who can operate comfortably between two very different worlds, academia and a fast-moving open-source ecosystem, and translate between them without losing precision on either side. You should have at least three years of experience managing academic programs or university-industry collaborations, with a track record of coordinating multiple stakeholders toward measurable results. Experience working with distributed teams across time zones is important, since this is a globally distributed role. A PhD and personal academic research experience is highly desirable, as is prior blockchain or Ethereum familiarity, though neither is strictly required if you can demonstrate strong cross-disciplinary communication skills and a genuine understanding of academic incentives, publication cycles, and university dynamics.

Day to day, strong cross-cultural communication and relationship-building skills matter as much as project management fundamentals, since you will be building trust with researchers and institutions across many different academic cultures. Comfort with ambiguity and the ability to plan projects without a fully defined roadmap is also important, since academic partnerships often develop organically rather than on a fixed schedule. Familiarity with Notion and Google Suite is expected for day-to-day project tracking.

This is a fully remote, globally distributed role with no stated geographic restriction, reflecting how the Ethereum Foundation typically hires for ecosystem-facing roles.
