Operations & Management
Canonical
Canonical, the company behind Ubuntu and a wide range of open-source infrastructure tools, is hiring a Business Services Team Manager for a truly worldwide, home-based role — Canonical has operated as a globally distributed, remote-first company since its founding.
This role sits behind the scenes of a global operation: it keeps a workforce spread across 80+ countries moving, traveling, and gathering together safely and efficiently, without the benefit of a central office to coordinate from.
Responsibilities:
• Oversee travel approvals, logistics, and day-to-day travel operations for a globally distributed workforce
• Review expense claims for policy compliance across Canonical's 80+ countries of operation
• Plan and execute four large-scale annual company events, each involving hundreds of employees
• Manage company office operations that provide executive and operational facilities in select cities
• Administer global health, safety, and duty-of-care programs for a workforce with no default office
Requirements:
• An exceptional academic track record from both high school and university
• An undergraduate degree in a technical or business subject
• Leadership and people-management experience
• Strong judgment on financial, policy, and interpersonal matters
• A demonstrated ability to work effectively in multicultural environments
• Willingness to travel up to four times a year, for company events lasting up to two weeks each
Preferred but not required:
• Travel industry experience
• Project management background
• Event management expertise
• Corporate administration experience
Compensation and benefits:
• Competitive base salary, which varies by location and experience
• Performance-driven annual bonus
• A $2,000 USD annual learning budget
• Annual compensation review
• Holiday leave, parental leave, and an Employee Assistance Programme
• Travel upgrades for company events and Priority Pass benefits
What Canonical offers:
• A genuinely worldwide, home-based role at a company that has been fully distributed since it was founded, not one that adopted remote work as a pandemic-era experiment
• Real operational scope: managing the travel, expenses, and event logistics for a workforce spanning dozens of countries
• The occasional in-person component (company-wide events) without a daily office requirement
Canonical is one of the longest-running fully distributed tech companies in the world, so this role comes with a genuinely mature remote-operations culture behind it rather than a company still figuring out how distributed work should function.
To apply, submit your application, including responses on your leadership experience, academic background, and technical-sector familiarity, through Canonical's own careers portal.
