Browsers Developer (Chromium focus)

Igalia, a worker-owned open-source consultancy known for major upstream contributions to Chromium, WebKit, and Firefox, is hiring a Browsers Developer to work on the Chromium codebase. Igalia is famous in the browser-engineering world for hiring globally with no fixed office requirement — its own careers page describes "telecommuting from wherever you want."

Igalia is unusual as a company: it operates as a flat, worker-owned cooperative rather than a conventional corporate hierarchy, and its engineers work directly on the open-source browser engines that power billions of devices, rather than building a closed internal product.

Responsibilities:

• Contribute to Chromium and the Blink rendering engine on real, shipping features
• Implement new web-facing platform features that land upstream in the open-source project
• Port the browser to new platforms, including mobile devices, televisions, and other embedded electronics
• Work across different areas of a very large, mature C++ codebase as needed
• Participate in the broader open-source Chromium community and standards discussions

Requirements:

• Strong proficiency writing efficient, maintainable, and portable C++ system code
• Ability to move across different areas of the Chromium codebase rather than staying narrowly specialized
• Strong organizational skills and adaptability, given the breadth of an open, evolving codebase
• Prior web browser development experience is a plus but is explicitly not mandatory
