Aave Labs
Aave Labs builds decentralized finance infrastructure, and Aave App is its consumer-facing savings and portfolio product that connects everyday users to onchain protocols without requiring them to understand the underlying blockchain mechanics. We are hiring a Staff Backend Engineer to design, build, and operate the backend services that power Aave App end to end: onboarding, funding, savings, withdrawals, portfolio data, and customer communications.
You will own transaction-orchestration and indexing services that track onchain activity in real time, and you will integrate directly with smart contracts, RPC providers, wallet infrastructure, and payment partners to keep the app fast and reliable at scale. This is a backend-heavy role for someone who wants to work close to the metal of a consumer fintech product built on top of DeFi rails, rather than a purely smart-contract or protocol-research position.
Day to day, you will lead technical reviews across the backend team, and push forward testing, observability, and incident-response practices so the team can move quickly without breaking production. You will work closely with mobile, web, product, design, and security engineers, since Aave App sits at the intersection of consumer UX and onchain infrastructure, and backend decisions here ripple into every other surface of the product.
We are looking for someone with 6 or more years of backend engineering experience, including real ownership of complex production systems, not just feature work on someone else's architecture. Strong backend programming ability is required, with Rust preferred, though Go, C++, or Java are all acceptable if you can demonstrate deep systems experience. You should be comfortable with distributed systems and event-driven architecture, and have strong working knowledge of API and GraphQL design, PostgreSQL or another relational database, caching layers, message queues, and observability tooling.
Blockchain-specific experience is important here: you should understand transaction signing, key management, and wallet infrastructure at a technical level, since these are core to how Aave App functions. Experience with EVM networks, smart accounts, or DeFi protocols generally is a strong plus, as is prior work on consumer fintech or payments products at meaningful scale, or experience with cross-chain indexing and large-scale data infrastructure.
This role is listed as remote available with no stated geographic or timezone restriction, which fits Aave Labs' broader pattern of hiring backend engineers globally for its Aave App and Vaults teams. If you want to build real backend infrastructure for a consumer product used by people who may never think about the blockchain underneath it, this is a strong fit.
To apply, submit your application directly through Aave's official careers page, including your resume and an optional cover letter. Aave states a typical response time of three to five business days.
