Mozilla's Thunderbird team is hiring a Staff Software Engineer to shape the technical direction of web-based Thunderbird Services products that extend beyond email, including appointment calendars and secure file storage. The role is fully remote and is posted as separate rows for the United States (USD 180,000 to 215,000) and Canada (CAD 155,000 to 190,000). Lead technical architecture for new Services products and complex projects. Write code, build prototypes and contribute throughout the development lifecycle. Establish software patterns and technology decisions across product lines. Build analytics infrastructure supporting data-driven decisions. Address ambiguous, high-impact problems affecting user and subscriber growth. Mentor engineers through code review, documentation and guidance.
At least 10 years of web software development experience, including designing scalable systems and launching complex web projects at scale. Expert-level JavaScript plus knowledge of Python, Rust, Go or C++. Front-end framework experience, full-stack or API development background and strong software development practices. Technical leadership experience, comfort with open-source environments and excellent English communication. Willingness to travel periodically, including internationally.
