Design
Staff Content Designer
StackBlitz
Description
Bolt.new is built by StackBlitz, the team behind WebContainers — the technology that first made it possible to run Node.js inside a browser. That work began in 2019 and now powers an online IDE used by more than a million developers a month. Bolt.new took it further: an AI-powered app builder that turns a description into a deployed full-stack web or mobile app, with no installs and no local setup. The team is fully remote and globally distributed.
**Why this role exists**
The framing in the listing is unusually sharp. Bolt is a product made of language: people describe what they want in words, an agent builds it, and they judge the result without ever reading the code. That makes the words load-bearing in a way they are not in most products.
The company has grown fast and written copy as it went, which means real content debt and no established standard. You would be the first content designer at Bolt, and nobody is ahead of you in deciding what good looks like.
**The job has two distinct halves**
*Own content as a discipline.* Define the voice, patterns, vocabulary and the reasoning behind them, then raise the quality of everyone else's writing — most of which comes from people who are not designers. The listing is explicit that the value here is leverage rather than volume: success means PMs and engineers write better content without you in the room.
*Ship content-led features end to end, alone.* Not immediately; the first months go to establishing the standard. After that you own feature onboarding, in-product education, and the moments where a value proposition has to land. There is no product designer assigned to turn your thinking into screens. You are the design DRI, working in Figma or with agentic tools, through to shipped.
Bolt says plainly that if the second half sounds daunting rather than energising, this is not the right role.
**How you would contribute**
- Define product voice, terminology and patterns for the repeating moments: prompts, errors, empty states, permissions, billing, settings — then embed them in the design system, components and internal agents so quality holds at speed
- Review writing from across the company and give feedback that improves people's judgment, not just the sentence in front of them
- Own content strategy, shaping product direction from problem definition rather than copy-editing at the end
- Scope, design and drive content-led features through implementation without a product design partner
- Work across the full lifecycle with Marketing and CX so pre-arrival, in-product and post-problem messaging reinforce each other
**Qualifications**
- A portfolio of product content work with at least two examples showing the problem, your reasoning, what you rejected, and what changed after shipping. Complex products at real scale; judgment matters more than polish
- Ability to take a content-led feature from problem to shipped without a product designer, designing in Figma or building with agentic tools
- Experience building a standard, system or set of guidelines that other people genuinely used. Bonus if you have watched one fail and can explain why
- Feedback skills that land with people outside design who did not ask for it, and with other writers as a peer rather than a manager
- Strong written and spoken English, the primary working language
**Bonus points**
- Startup or small-team experience
- Shaping AI tools, or writing for products where the interface is a conversation
- Experience spanning product, marketing and support content
- Consumer product background
**What Bolt states explicitly**
- No college degree required
- No need to be located in the US — the team is remote-friendly
- No need to meet every qualification listed
**Two practical requirements**
The application asks you to confirm availability from **7:00 to 10:00 AM Pacific Time** for cross-timezone collaboration. That is comfortable from the Americas, an afternoon commitment from Europe, and a late-night one from Asia — worth weighing carefully.
There are also sanctions-related location restrictions covering Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Syria, Russia, and the Crimea, Donetsk and Luhansk regions of Ukraine. Bolt additionally discloses that it uses Greenhouse Talent Matching and an AI-assisted recruiting workflow to help review applications, with an opt-out link provided.
