CEDEI (Centro de Estudios Interamericanos)
CEDEI (Centro de Estudios Interamericanos), a non-profit bilingual education institution founded in 1992, is hiring English teachers for its preschool-through-K12 dual-immersion school in Cuenca, Ecuador.
Cuenca is a UNESCO World Heritage city in the high valleys of the southern Ecuadorian Andes, and has long been one of the more popular Ecuadorian cities for foreign teachers and retirees due to its colonial architecture, mild climate, and relatively low cost of living. CEDEI itself is a well-established institution with both a K-12 school and separate language programs for adults.
Responsibilities:
• Teach English across content areas within CEDEI's dual-immersion curriculum, at the preschool, elementary, or secondary level depending on placement
• Deliver 16-22 contact hours per week, Monday to Friday, 7:30am to 1:30pm, with opportunities for additional paid tutoring
• Plan lessons appropriate to a bilingual immersion setting, working alongside Spanish-language teaching staff
• Use CEDEI's resource room and curriculum materials, with ongoing support from the school's International Coordinator
• Engage in the school's professional development programming as an English-language educator
Requirements:
• A bachelor's degree
• A TEFL, CELTA, TESOL, or related teaching certificate
• Native or native-level fluent English
• Prior experience teaching various grade levels is preferred but not mandatory for well-qualified candidates
• Comfortable relocating to Cuenca, Ecuador for the length of the teaching contract
What is included:
• A structured, half-day teaching schedule (mornings, Monday-Friday) with room for extra paid tutoring hours
• Ongoing professional development support and access to CEDEI's curriculum resource room
• The chance to teach in one of Ecuador's most livable and popular expat-friendly cities
• Placement within an established, non-profit bilingual institution with over three decades of history in Cuenca
Salary for this role is listed at $430 USD per month, which reflects the cost of living in Cuenca rather than a North American or European pay scale; the posting does not state explicit visa or relocation assistance, so candidates should confirm work-authorization requirements directly with CEDEI during the hiring process.
To apply, submit a current resume, a copy of your TEFL/TESOL/CELTA certificate, and three letters of recommendation describing your teaching abilities through the job posting's application portal.
