Engineering Manager, SRE - AV Fleet (Yokohama, Japan - Employer-Supported Immigration)

Lead and develop a 5 to 10 person fleet reliability engineering team, including hiring, coaching, performance management and retention. Establish incident command procedures and escalation protocols for the Japan AV fleet. Define service-level metrics for critical operational workflows. Develop new vehicle onboarding processes and oversee operational readiness. Build automation and tooling to scale fleet operations. Partner with global engineering, field operations and Japanese automotive partners. Communicate status and risks clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders. Take part in an on-call rotation and maintain regular onsite presence in Yokohama.

Engineering management experience leading technical teams of 5 to 10 people. Demonstrated expertise in reliability engineering, observability, incident management and release safety. Hands-on technical credibility in design reviews, debugging and production systems. Track record managing roadmaps, resourcing and measurable delivery. Calm judgment during high-pressure incidents with clear risk communication. Willingness to be onsite regularly in Yokohama and join an on-call rotation. Permission to work in Japan, or eligibility for employer-supported immigration where applicable to the final hiring plan. Desirable: autonomous vehicles, robotics, automotive or safety-critical infrastructure background; Linux, cloud, Kubernetes and modern observability tooling; Python, Go, Rust or TypeScript; prior collaboration with Japanese automotive manufacturers.
