Customer Support & Success

Graduate Customer Success Manager

Canonical

WorldwideRemoteEntry LevelPosted 1h ago

Description

Canonical publishes Ubuntu and is one of the largest commercial contributors to open source. The company has been remote-first since 2004, and now has 1,200+ colleagues across 75+ countries with very few office-based roles.

This is an entry-level position, based remotely worldwide, and it is one of the clearer routes into a global tech company for someone early in their career.

**The role**

Customer Success is a relatively new and strategic department at Canonical. Its purpose is to reduce churn, help customers adopt new products and services, and support growth within existing accounts.

Customer Success Managers build trust with the customers assigned to them and help them navigate Canonical's fairly large product range. Understanding what a customer is actually trying to achieve lets the CSM pull in the right internal and external resources to remove obstacles, set realistic expectations, and shape a workable roadmap.

This particular role is the first step in that organisation. You would focus mainly on the Tech segment, including store customers, while carrying your own portfolio. Thousands of new users choose Ubuntu every month, and the team's job is to give them a good experience from onboarding through to getting real value out of the products.

**What the work looks like**

- Supporting customers by resolving ticket requests
- Improving documentation covering problem solving, Q&A and onboarding material
- Running campaigns that reach multiple customers through digital touchpoints
- Spotting both high-potential and at-risk customers among newly onboarded users
- Onboarding new customers across products including Ubuntu Pro, MAAS, Landscape, OpenStack, Ceph, Kubernetes and various data applications
- Working with Sales and Support to build and deliver engagement plans
- Staying close to your portfolio so risks surface early
- Gathering customer feedback and packaging it for the product team

**What they are looking for**

- Customer-facing experience
- Empathy and a genuine instinct to help
- Real interest in technology, infrastructure and Ubuntu specifically, which the listing describes as a must
- Strong presentation skills
- Organisational discipline, particularly around keeping documentation current
- Comfort working across every internal department

**A genuine advantage: languages**

The Customer Success team explicitly values multilingual candidates. Proficiency in **Japanese, Korean, Spanish, Portuguese, German, French or Italian**, written and spoken, alongside strong English, is worth flagging in your application. For anyone who has picked up a second language while living abroad, this is a rare listing where that directly counts.

**Benefits**

- Distributed work with twice-yearly in-person team sprints
- USD 2,000 personal learning and development budget per year
- Annual compensation review, reviewed more often for graduates, plus performance-driven bonus
- Recognition rewards, annual holiday leave, maternity and paternity leave
- Employee Assistance Programme
- Priority Pass and travel upgrades for long-haul company events

No salary figures are published on this listing.

**Eligibility — read this first**

The listing is specific about who it is for: recent graduates from the last one to two years, or those about to graduate, **with no more than two years of work experience**. Anyone with more experience is directed to the non-graduate Customer Success Manager role instead. Applying to the wrong one wastes everybody's time.

**Three more things to know**

**AI use disqualifies your application.** You must confirm you used only your own words.

**Expect academic screening.** High-school mathematics and native-language performance bands, justified against national scoring systems, plus your degree result. Candidates without a degree may enter "no degree."

**Travel is required.** Two to four internal events a year, one to two weeks each, likely requiring visas and vaccinations.

Three written answers are mandatory, and the third is a genuine test: why Customer Success matters to you, which relevant skills you have developed and how, and **explain Canonical's products and services in a single sentence**. That last one rewards real research rather than a generic application.
