IT and Security Specialist

Epoch AI, a nonprofit research institute investigating the trajectory of AI development, is hiring an IT and Security Specialist. The role is fully remote with flexible hours; Epoch AI states a preference for candidates based between UTC-8 (Pacific Time) and UTC+1 (Central European Time) for team overlap, disclosed here as a soft preference rather than a hard exclusion of other regions.

You will set and maintain security protocols without adding unnecessary process, identify and remediate security risks through hands-on technical work and team collaboration, own implementation decisions on security measures like two-factor authentication, manage access across Google Workspace, GitHub, AWS, Google Cloud, 1Password, Slack, and Airtable, run cloud accounts and software subscriptions (new projects, IAM, budgets, quota increases), and handle technical onboarding/offboarding for staff.

Requirements: 5+ years in security, DevSecOps, IT operations, or a similar field; experience owning security at a medium-sized organization; fluency working with engineers and technical teams; Google Workspace administration and AWS IAM experience preferred; comfort making independent access decisions; and willingness to attend three annual team retreats.

Compensation: $125,000-$155,000 USD annually, adjusted by location and seniority. Benefits include comprehensive health, life, and pension coverage, 30+ days of protected PTO plus unlimited personal/sick leave, and 4 months of paid parental leave after 12+ months of tenure.
