Europe/Andorra
You cross into Andorra through a tunnel in the Pyrenees, or you do not cross at all. There is no airport. There is no train. The mountains decide when you arrive. Then the valley opens and you are in something that is neither France nor Spain — a thin strip of duty-free commerce, ski lifts, and medieval stone churches that has been governing itself with uninterrupted sovereignty since 1278. Remote work in Andorra occupies a peculiar position: extraordinarily appealing on paper, quietly strange in practice.
The tax architecture is the obvious draw. Income tax is capped at 10%. There is no inheritance tax, no capital gains tax, and IGI runs at 4.5%. For a geo-flexible professional earning well and spending strategically, Andorra la Vella offers a fiscal residency that few European jurisdictions can match. The 183-day rule applies here as everywhere. Establish genuine residence, document it properly, and your tax obligations become very simple.
Life in Andorra is, however, almost entirely organized around skiing, shopping, and tobacco. Coworking infrastructure is minimal. The restaurant scene is adequate. Winters are cold, long, and beautiful if you ski. Springs are brief. Summers bring hiking and a population that trebles as European day-trippers arrive for cigarettes and spirits they cannot buy cheaply at home.
The community of long-term remote workers in Andorra is small and tends to be either very financially motivated or simply in love with altitude. It is not a place of cafes buzzing with laptops, of startup energy, of the particular warmth that nomad hubs like Tbilisi or Medellin have built over years. Andorra is serious, quiet, and rather expensive once the tax arbitrage is factored out of accommodation and food.
For those who have done the Lisbon scene, the Bali circuit, the Chiang Mai years — Andorra offers something different: altitude, silence, and a tax code that does not waste your time. Not every season needs to be social. Some need to be productive.
