Senior Software Engineer, Backend (Servicing International)

THE ROLE

You would join the Servicing International team at the forefront of Affirm's global expansion, building the foundational platform to launch its products into new international markets. This role focuses specifically on purchase protection, including disputes and refunds, a critical part of the user journey and an area of significant investment as Affirm builds trust with new customers.

Success requires close collaboration with European engineering counterparts and engineers across Affirm's global Servicing Engineering organisation to build cohesive, scalable solutions.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

Own and deliver quarterly goals for your team, leading engineers through ambiguity to solve open-ended problems. Support the product development lifecycle by collaborating with product management, design and analytics. Proactively identify project, process, technology or business issues and lead in solving them. Support operations and availability through metrics, monitoring and on-call efforts. Foster a culture of quality and ownership through code review and design standards. Occasionally contribute to full-stack development, including front-end components. Help develop talent on your team through feedback and guidance.

WHAT THEY LOOK FOR

4+ years designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale using languages such as Python or Kotlin. A track record developing highly available distributed systems using AWS, MySQL and Kubernetes. Enthusiasm for occasionally working on front-end code, no prior front-end experience required. Experience defining a technical plan for delivery of a significant feature with an elegant, extensible design. Strong verbal and written communication supporting collaboration with a global engineering team.

Bonus: exposure to building web apps with declarative UI frameworks such as React or Vue.

COMPENSATION

Spain base pay range: EUR 86,000 to EUR 122,000 per year, plus equity. Employees new to Affirm typically start at the beginning of the range.

This role is Remote Spain, and Affirm states directly: "We are able to offer visa sponsorship for this role, but do require that someone is based in Spain for the role."
