Wageningen University & Research
Wageningen University and Research is hiring a PhD researcher to study how moss characteristics influence fire ignition in northern peatlands and tundra. The work combines laboratory experiments, fieldwork in high-latitude ecosystems and remote sensing analysis. The aim is to understand the functional roles of bryophytes in fire dynamics and improve wildfire risk assessments for vulnerable regions. You will design and run moss ignitability experiments, survey field sites, monitor fire conditions, possibly operate drones and process vegetation databases. You will publish peer-reviewed papers, present at conferences and co-supervise students. The listing states that the university's team of advisors on Dutch immigration procedures will help with the visa application for you and, if applicable, your family. The contract is 18 months initially, extendable, paying EUR 3,204 to 4,051 gross per month. The application deadline is 2 November 2026.
