Senior Site Reliability Engineer, Data Persistence
Wikimedia Foundation
Description
The Wikimedia Foundation — the non-profit organisation that operates Wikipedia and the Wikimedia free knowledge projects, serving one of the top 10 most-visited websites in the world to hundreds of millions of readers globally, funded entirely by donations averaging $15 — is hiring a Senior Site Reliability Engineer for its Data Persistence team, working fully remotely from anywhere in its 40+ country hiring network. The Data Persistence team is a small, high-impact SRE team responsible for Wikimedia's production storage and retrieval systems and underlying database infrastructure. You'll perform day-to-day operational and DevOps tasks on Wikimedia's public-facing infrastructure, implement configuration management and deployment tools (Puppet, Kubernetes), lead continuous improvement through automation, work closely with product teams on scalable architecture, participate in a shared 24/7 on-call rotation, and mentor peers across the globally distributed SRE team. All of Wikimedia's documentation, code, and configuration is published as open source — the ultimate in transparency. Salary ranges from $113,082–$175,725 USD for US-based candidates, geo-adjusted globally. Candidates must be citizens or permanent residents of their country of residence; EOR is used for non-US employees.
