Rust Developer – Polycentric

FUTO — the Austin-based organization dedicated to developing and funding technologies that frustrate centralization and industry consolidation, building open-source alternatives to dominant tech platforms used by millions of people — is hiring a Rust Developer to help launch Polycentric, its open-source distributed social network that lets users own their identity. Polycentric is built on a distributed protocol where users choose which servers to interact through; features include self-sovereign cryptographic identity, community-centric topic feeds, censorship-resistant publishing, and cross-platform identity linking. Working fully remotely from anywhere in the world (or onsite in Austin, TX, with generous relocation stipend), you'll contribute to the core development and architecture of the Polycentric protocol and backend systems, design and implement performant, scalable features in collaboration with a distributed team, influence system design decisions around data models, networking, and performance, and engage with the wider open-source community. Strong Rust experience in production, experience building high-performance distributed systems, understanding of cryptographic primitives (signing, verification), and PostgreSQL proficiency are required.
