Enveritas — the Y Combinator S18-backed 501(c)(3) nonprofit that visits 100,000+ smallholder coffee farms annually across 25+ countries in Asia, Africa, and Latin America to evaluate their social, economic, and environmental practices, helping coffee roasters make responsible sourcing claims and improving livelihoods of millions of farmers worldwide — is hiring a Backend Software Engineer focused on Python and PostgreSQL, working fully remotely from anywhere in the world (core hours 10am–2pm Eastern, Monday–Friday; EOR via Deel for non-US hires). This role is part of Enveritas's EUDR engineering team, focusing on backend systems that ingest customer-submitted farm lists, validate and transform inputs, run geospatial datasets against deforestation detection models, and ensure compliance as EU regulations evolve. You'll implement improvements to backend services, refine geospatial workflows, trace complex data issues for the Support team, adapt systems to regulatory updates, and maintain Terraform-based AWS infrastructure. The stack is Python + PostgreSQL/PostGIS + Docker + AWS (EC2, RDS, CloudFront) + Terraform + CI/CD. 7+ years of professional backend experience, advanced PostgreSQL, practical Linux/Bash/Docker/AWS experience, and the ability to explain complex ideas clearly to non-technical colleagues are required.
