Sourcegraph — the world's most powerful code intelligence platform used by Stripe, Uber, and Dropbox to navigate and operate massive codebases, backed by a16z, Sequoia, and Redpoint — is hiring an Agent Engineer at the IC4 (Senior) level to be the technical owner of the AI/agentic surfaces on the Code Understanding team, working fully remotely from almost anywhere in the world (preference for Europe or North America; 20-hour EST overlap required). Code Understanding owns Deep Search (a multi-step agentic answer engine across enterprise codebases), Query Assist, Smart Hovers, and the APIs that both humans and agents depend on daily. As the senior agent engineer, you'll own the agentic direction for the team: design and harden multi-step tool-using agent loops, decide which models to use and when, drive model upgrades and fine-tuning, push on retrieval and context engineering to make answers more accurate and verifiable, treat cost and latency as product features, and build the evaluation systems that tell the team whether changes actually work. This is a senior role with a direct line to impact: a small team, short product cycle, engineers who talk to customers. Salary is zone-based and fully transparent: Zone 2 (US/Canada) $176,000 · Zone 3 (Western Europe, etc.) $132,000 · Zone 4 (rest of world) $88,000, plus equity and benefits.
