Staff Product Engineer (Contract) – LATAM

Counterpart

LATAM (AR/BR/CO/CL/MX/DO/PE)RemoteSeniorPosted 2h ago

Description

Counterpart — an insurtech platform reimagining management and professional liability for the modern workplace, and the builder of the first Agentic Insurance system where AI and deep insurance expertise combine to proactively assess, mitigate, and manage risk, backed by A-rated carriers and trusted by brokers nationwide — is hiring a Staff Product Engineer on a contract basis, working remotely from Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Chile, Mexico, the Dominican Republic, or Peru. This is an explicitly AI-native engineering role. You own problems and drive outcomes end to end: ironing out requirements directly with stakeholders, partners and customers; translating business intent into functional requirements that both engineers and AI agents can build against; deciding where human judgment is non-negotiable and where AI can act autonomously; writing production code across Python, Django, AWS, React and PostgreSQL; directing agents and reviewing their output for correctness, edge cases, performance, security and readability; tracking agent failure modes and refining the prompts and patterns that raise the quality ceiling; verifying end-to-end results yourself; and iterating until the metric moves. You run projects spanning other Product Engineers and AI agents, knowing when to delegate to a human, when to delegate to an agent, and when to do it yourself. You work within Counterpart's Context Architecture, a shared system of documentation, design patterns and domain knowledge that supports autonomous decision-making. Requirements: 10+ years building production web applications full-stack; demonstrated experience gathering requirements directly from users and turning ambiguous intent into buildable specs; ownership of both functional and non-functional requirements; a track record owning a domain without close supervision; experience coordinating across engineers and AI agents without a formal management title; proficiency with Python and Django plus working knowledge of TypeScript, React and PostgreSQL; and proficiency developing with AI tools such as Claude Code, Cursor or OpenAI Codex. Counterpart is fully distributed with no office, though meetings often fall in US time zones. Benefits include work from anywhere, up to $100 per year toward English language classes, paid vacation, up to 8 weeks unpaid parental leave for contractors, and reimbursement for a locally procured MacBook Pro that is yours to keep after one year. Estimated pay: USD $90,000-$110,000 annually (contractor).
